2023 Prospect Brandon Williams discusses his recruitment
6'8" wing Brandon Williams '23 currently plays for the legendary Christ the King. During the spring and summer, he will suit up for the PSA Cardinals on the EYBL 17U circuit. This will be a great opportunity for Brandon to further showcase his skills on the bigger stage.
During the interview, he mentioned Jayson Tatum is his favorite NBA player. "Christ the King Head Coach Joe Arbitello says I share similarities of his high school teammate Lamar Odom at the age. Christ the King Assistant Coach CJ Steed has me watching a bunch of guys like Carmelo (Anthony), TMac (Tracy McGrady), Glenn Robinson, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Lamarcus Aldridge, Penny Hardaway, KG (Kevin Garnett), and Lamar Odom. I try to take pieces of their games and add them to my overall skill set."
Over the AAU season, Brandon started to build a reputation as a 6'5" 15 year old wing. Now he stands 6'8" maintaining his skills becoming even more intriguing to college programs.
"Recruitment has been going well for me since last AAU basketball summer. Oklahoma State, Missouri, USC, Pittsburgh, Iona, Kansas State, Seton Hall, St. John's, West Virginia, Charleston, TCU, and Illinois before major coaching changes.
"Pittsburgh, Iona, Kansas State, Seton Hall, and St. John's have been the most active but recently I've heard from Creighton, Nebraska, and UCLA"
Missouri: "I spoke with Coach Martin at Missouri a few times and had a zoom call with him, he’s a good guy."
Oklahoma State: "I spoke with Coach Boynton at Oklahoma State last summer and recently heard from the Assistant Coaches back in November. Coach Terrence Rencher was a high school teammate of Coach Book (Richardson) while Coach Boynton played for Coach Artie Cox, they are NYC guys."
Kansas State: "I started speaking to Kansas State around the summertime during the AAU season. They came to a few games, I’ve been in touch with Coach Southwell ever since. He’s a NY Gauchos alumnus like me and he checks on me often "
Seton Hall: "Coach Forty (Duane Woodward) from Seton Hall has been very cool and down to earth. He stopped by to see me a few times and I watched one of their practice and games in New Jersey."
St. John’s: "The Coaching staff has been in to see me at practice and a few games. I’ve been to a few of their games and attended midnight madness. Their whole staff has been around and all are good people, Coach Anderson, Coach Macon, and Coach Shoes Vetrone."
Pittsburgh: "Coach Tim O’Toole from Pittsburgh stopped by a practice and ever since then we’ve been in touch he checks in a lot."
Creighton: "Coach Ryan Miller reached out to my coach and my mom. They offered me, he also offered me at TCU. He was cool.
They want me to come to visit. They have a Christ The King Alum, Corey Edwards, on the staff."
Nebraska: "Coach Matt Abdelmassih reached out to my coach and my mom and offered."
UCLA: "They hosted me on campus and came to see me play at Staples Center (December 2021). Coach Cronin and Coach Savino were cool."

Brandon has a unique combination of size and skills. I believe even more schools will start to get involved. Fit and style play an important role in selecting a school. We discussed what he believes bet fits him.
"I think I’m pretty versatile. I can play in the half court and run plays. I can break my guy down in isolation, play in the post, or hit the open shot. I can also play fast in transition rebound push the ball while getting it to the open guy. I can guard and play all positions. I'm looking for a play style that will allow me to utilize my whole skill set not confine me."
