Remember the name freshman Avery Sutton of Hillhouse High School
I hate to sound like a homer but New Haven, Connecticut has always been a hotbed for talent. Avery Sutton is on track to continue the legacy of the city. He's a long wiry and athletic point guard with court vision along with playmaking ability. He's listed at 6'1" but he's taller, in my opinion. He plays for his father, legendary coach, Renard Sutton, at Hillhouse. Coach Sutton is old school, meaning, you have to earn everything, nothing is given. This mentality continues to manifest with Avery throughout the regular season and over the spring/summer. I was able to evaluate him at the prestigious Pango East Camp where he turned heads through the weekend with his size and skills. I caught up with Avery a few weeks ago and we discussed a variety of things from life to recruitment.
With attention comes new expectations, how have you been handling it all?
"I don't allow myself to listen to the outside noise. I’m just working on getting better every game. My father and brother have helped keep me focused."
You're early in the recruitment phase but have programs been in contact with your coach?
"Coaches from LIU Brooklyn and Columbia have complimented me and saying I have a bright future but no offers outside of that."

How would you describe your game?
"I'm a pass-first guard that can score when needed. I've always taken on the challenge of defending opposing high-level guards. I make my purpose to change the game defensively to ignite my offense."
